Also a travel enthusiast, Lara has participated in humanitarian work abroad, working with local communities in the Dominican Republic, Thailand, Kenya, Mexico, and Chile. She has also lived in England, backpacked through the Mediterranean countries, and couch-surfed her way throughout the United States. She lives in Los Angeles with her writer/middle school teacher/software engineer husband, Derek, where they open their home to foster youth in LA County.
